Finding your way through the maze of the NDIS.
Finding your way through the maze of the NDIS, supporting participants to the best of your ability, and giving your all to doing a great job can be exhausting! Fear not! Here are five reminders to providing excellent service as an NDIS Support Coordinator.
1. **Listen first, act second**
Start by really *listening* to your participants. Ask open-ended questions, and let them tell you their goals, needs, and challenges. It’s not just about ticking boxes; it's about understanding their story and what they truly want out of the NDIS. When they feel heard, they feel supported.
2. **Stay in the know**
NDIS can be a bit of a maze with all its updates, policies, and changes. Make it your mission to stay informed! Know the latest guidelines and keep your participants in the loop too. The more you're on top of things, the better you'll be able to help them navigate the system smoothly.
3. **Be the bridge**
You’re the link between your participant and all the services out there. So, build great relationships with providers, therapists, and community services. This way, when a participant needs something, you can confidently say, “I know just the right person to help with that!”
4. **Organise, but be flexible**
Planning and organising are crucial, but things don’t always go according to plan. Be ready to adapt! A participant’s needs may change, or a service provider may need to reschedule. Stay on top of things, but also go with the flow when necessary.
5. **Follow-up like a pro**
It’s not just about putting plans in place and walking away. Regular check-ins with your participants are key. Ask how things are going, adjust supports if needed, and make sure they feel like you're in their corner. A little follow-up goes a long way!
These steps will make sure your participants feel supported, informed, and truly cared for. Keep the communication open, and you'll build strong, trusting relationships.
